A new barrier-free apartment house for people with disabilities has been constructed on Mostecká Street in Brno-Husovice, providing residential social services.
Several challenging factors had to be addressed simultaneously during construction. The construction site was located in a conservation area of the city, with a frontage on a busy street where trams also run, and there are more demanding conditions for supplying the building.
Despite all this, it was possible to transform a building that was in a state of disrepair into a functional space, preserving some of the original features (e.g., the vaulted ceilings, the gabled roof, and the decorative elements on the façade in the front). Seven double rooms were created in the building. The new extension in the courtyard included a dining room for 21 people, rooms for rehabilitation, and social areas for meeting clients and their visitors. Additionally, the building treats rainwater in an environmentally friendly way, thanks to a green roof by GreenTop.
